There are so many stories, it is hard to choose. Most recently, I had a middle-aged man walk in who had not seen a doctor in years. His blood pressure was dangerously high - he almost had a stroke. We were able to eventually get it under control and get him plugged in with specialists to address his numerous other problems. Then, he lost his job and his health insurance with it. He has no way to pay for continued care, can barely afford generic medications, and cannot get blood tests or imaging tests due to cost. We have continued to see him despite no current insurance coverage. He is barely holding on; we supply samples and generic prescriptions to try to keep his blood pressure controlled. He is just one among many.
