MA Submitted as a Letter to the Editor:

Regarding the piece, \"GOP cool to Obama\'s offer to meet on healthcare reform,\":

The time has come for Republicans to stop playing politics and support common-sense solutions to health reform such as banning the use of pre-existing conditions to deny insurance coverage and the creation of health insurance exchanges.

As a medical student, I recently took care of a patient with Multiple Sclerosis who lost her health insurance after escaping a relationship with her abusive husband. Losing coverage for her medications, her condition worsened to the point where she lost the ability to walk. With a health insurance exchange and sensible health insurance regulation, she could have easily afforded medications that would have halted the progression of her disease.

Republicans need to understand that starting over on health reform means more Americans like my patient will continue to suffer needlessly. Health reform cannot wait any longer.
