I Stand With Doctors and My Community for Health Reform
with a Public Option

The majority of Doctors and the American people want a public option. Insurance companies don't.

Members of the House of Representatives heard us, and we won a big victory. But our next hurdle will be harder. Now's it time to tell the Senate: doctors and our communities -- the people they should be listening to most -- support comprehensive health reform with a public option.

Dear Senators,

As physicians, we stand with the majority of our physician colleagues in support of health reform with a strong public option. Doctors see examples every single day of how the health care system is failing our patients. All of our patients deserve access to high quality health care at a cost they can afford. Providing them with the choice of a well-structured, high quality public insurance option is the best way to achieve that goal.

As patients, we stand with the majority of the American people in support of health reform with a public option because it will provide us with more choices while keeping costs down. We want a system where we can have affordable, stable coverage when we need it.

Together, we the undersigned physicians and patients support health reform with a strong, well-designed not-for-profit public health insurance option. A public option will ensure that Americans can always find a high quality, affordable health insurance plan regardless of their situation. It will provide more choices of insurance plans and help slow the rapid growth in healthcare costs.

We believe that the public option as part of comprehensive reform offers the best hope of improving quality, controlling health care costs and guaranteeing health security for all Americans. We urge the Senate to pass comprehensive health reform with a public option this year.
